This series of handpainted tea cups were created as gifts for friends before I left San Angelo, Texas.
I started each cup with a basic idea and just went where it took me. The original plan for this first cup was to create a circuit board look but it came out more like burlap.
The goal here was traditional Japanese woodcut feel with soothing, smooth curves and spiraled clouds. This was also a test run with creating fills, which can be seen with mixed results in the waves.
Possibly my favorite of the group. I started this one simply with a red dot and worked outwards. It changes from setting sun, to connected neurons, to bacteria as you turn the cup.
I started this with a forrest idea in mind. It came together in three distinct parts; the canopy, the clover on the ground, and the spores/mist in the middle. I'd originally wanted to do a more complex pattern in the middle but  I liked the minimal dots even more.
